What does an AI audit include? A guide for business owners
An AI audit maps your operations, finds where AI pays off and tells you what to build first. Here is what happens in one, what you get and what it costs.
An AI audit is a short, structured review of how your business actually works, done to find where AI would save time or money, what it would take to build, and what to do first. A good one ends with a ranked list of opportunities and a plan your team can act on, not a slide deck.
Most businesses have already tried AI in some form. McKinsey’s State of AI 2025 found that 88% of organizations use AI in at least one business function, but only about 6% attribute 5% or more of their EBIT to it. An audit exists to close that gap: to find the specific places where AI moves a number in your business.
What happens during an AI audit?
At AIVolve, an audit typically takes 1–2 weeks and follows four steps:
- Map the work. We talk to the people who do the work and walk through key workflows: intake, quoting, scheduling, document handling, reporting and customer questions.
- Measure it. For each process we note how often it happens, how long it takes and where errors or delays come from.
- Check what is possible. We look at the systems and data involved and what each process would need for AI to help: documents, history, integrations and review points.
- Rank the opportunities. Each one is scored by value, effort and risk, so you can see which are worth doing now, later or not at all.
What do you get at the end?
- A ranked opportunity register: every process reviewed, with an estimated benefit, the effort involved and the risks.
- A 90-day quick win: one opportunity that is valuable and achievable soon, so you see results early.
- A 6–12 month roadmap: the order in which to tackle the rest, including dependencies such as data or system access.
Estimated benefits are targets to test, not promises. The point is to decide where to invest with evidence instead of a gut feeling.
How much does an AI audit cost?
AIVolve’s AI audits start at $1,500. The final price depends on how many teams and workflows are in scope, and it is agreed in writing before work starts. An audit does not commit you to a build: the roadmap is yours to act on with us, with another provider or with your own team.
Who should get an AI audit?
An audit is most useful when you know AI could help but are not sure where to start, or when you have tried tools and pilots without a clear result. If you already know exactly what you want to automate, you can skip straight to scoping that build.
What should you prepare?
Very little. Expect to give us time with the people who do the work, a walkthrough of key systems, and sample documents or data. You do not need clean data or a technical team to start; checking what is usable is part of the audit.
